romney's plans are stuck in the past. the president was first out of the gate today with a rally down in florida this afternoon. the president told his crowd of supporters the romney campaign is just not telling the truth about his plans and says romney's policies will not add jobs but end up raising taxes on the middle class. for the republican's part mitt romney was in nevada along with vice presidential candidate paul ryan. governor romney said that the president is attacking him for making up for a lack of a plan for obama's second term. both candidates eventually said the other isn't telling the truth. >> his deficit plan doesn't reduce the deficit. it adds to it. his foreign policies from the 1980s. his social policy's from the 1950s. his economic policies are from the 1920s. so everything he's doing right now is to hide his real

position. >> this is a status quo candidacy. his is a -- message of going forward with the same policies the last four years and that's why his campaign is slipping and that's why ours is gaining so much steam. >> reporter: you know the president also made a bit of news last night for our region during the debate on the subject of defense cuts, the president said flatly that the sequestration cuts that could result in a loss of thousands of defense industry jobs in our area, the president's words would not happen. however, ryan during an interview today with an obama campaign spokesperson, they would not be able to tell fox 5 how the president can guarantee that these congressionally mandated cuts are going to be avoided in the president's words. >> all right. tom fitzgerald tonight and now to the tight senate race in virginia between former governors george allen and tim kaine. today allen appeared on fox 5 morning news and says he's confident he'll pull out a win in two weeks. >> people are responding to our very positive message, we've

the campaign. tonight we're going to look at the last-minute media blitz by both president obama and governor romney. plus a debate on maryland's question 7, both sides of the gambling issue will join us live. i'll be your host and we will be joined by fox 5's political reporter tom fitzgerald and political analyst mark plot kin. a news alert from the bay bridge. both sides of the bay bridge now finally open. after a tanker truck was leaking propane. it happened earlier this afternoon. both spans of the bridge initially closed. then the eastbound span opened about an hour ago. now both sides opened. police say they've removed the truck from route 50 but clean- up efforts are now underway. the edge on maryland now where a manassas woman took police on a wild ride across two states that ended in montgomery county. the 27-year-old has been hospitalized after the afternoon long car chase and crash. paul wagner is live in rockville tonight. paul? >> reporter: it's a bit bizarre

brian. after a long investigation by police is that there were two naval security officers involved in trying to stop this woman outside the north entrance to the new walter reed. what we know is that she had struck two cars including a police cruiser and had made a u- turn and came back around when she encountered this two offers. one of -- officers. one of them used a metal baton an asp baton to knock out two of the car windows to get her attention. then she kept going. the second officer then opened fire. >> we're told there was a -- again a naval security person here. the car was coming towards that person. i think he was on foot. he discharged his firearm once. the round struck the vehicle. the woman continued into the intersection crossing over into the southbound lanes but traveling north to cedar. >> reporter: montgomery county police say just before the

shooting angela cobalt of manassas hit a car while trying to make a u-turn 59 the north entrance -- at the north entrance to the facility. she drone they have down the -- then drove down the pike before coming back to the north entrance where she struck a police cruiser and encountered the two officers. it all ended a few minutes later in rockville. where witnesses say cobalt had lost at least one tire and was driving on the rims before crashing into a fence. from the air, you can see cobalt struggled with police for quite some time before she was handcuffed and placed on a gurney. this is where it all ended on the street here in rockville. up against that fence behind me. we searched a number of records around the area online court records, anything we could find in virginia. the district and maryland. we found nothing at all for angela cobalt. she doesn't even have a traffic ticket that we can find. brian? the transit agency is

adding disclaimers to the controversial pro israeli ads. it's reported metro will add the statements to notify it is is a designated public forum and metro doesn't endorse the messages behind them. the ads went up earlier this month equating muslim radicals with savages. new tonight some strong words issued by opponents of same sex marriage in maryland. >> if we don't vote against it, then we are approving these things that are worthy of this. >> pastor anderson interpreting scripture and saying why marylanders should oppose question 6 allowing same sex couples to marry. he's a member of the maryland marriage alliance. they oppose the referendum. supporters were quick to denounce anderson's comments calling them intolerant. also new tonight supporter of same sex marriage in maryland plan to rally outside of gallaudet university on thursday. them show support for angela

mccaskill. she was serving as the university's chief diversity officer but was put on paid administrative leave after signing a petition supporting gay marriage in maryland. congressman jackson jr. is returning to the hospital for treatment on his mood disorder. the illinois drattic law make -- democratic lawmaker will undergo tests for bipolar disorder. he was released from the clinic in september. his colleagues say the congressman looks well but will remain under doctor's care. >> there was periods of great laughter and great levity and you know, but then there was also some periods where he wouldn't -- actually crying, okay? when he was thinking about the effects of all this on his family. >> jackson hasn't been campaigning for his november over the weekend but the family says he won't return to work until the doctors give him the okay. straight ahead here on the news edge, what happens in

papal letters is not over yet. an appeal is pending. the new york police department under fire after an informant says he was paid to bait muslims, 19-year-old ramen in the black shirt there claims the nydp used a strategy called create and capture. he waited for people outside mosques and started conversations about jihad or terrorism then reported the responses to police. ramen says he earned as much as $1,000 a month. authorities are investigating those claims. like a plot out of a movie. this time the bad guy got away. this man is accused of stealing more than $1.35 million in chips from the venetian. the california man snuck into a private area and stole the chips. he was caught on tape. he also didn't know it can be impossible to cash the things in. >> anybody that comes back to the casino to try and cash these chips or to play them will be met by security. >> definitely not like stealing cash which you can spend anywhere. there's pretty much one place on earth where you can cash

week but let's enjoy it while it's here right? this seeing nice. i -- evening nice. i mean we have some clouds out but temperatures today have been warm. no rain out there. we stay mild this eveningment all the rain is well up to the north of us. it's 77 now but let's look at temperatures. the highs today at least at national was 78. dulles close to 80. 79. and bwi marshall right in there too. 76. just so i now and you do know -- you know and you do know, all these temperatures are above where we should be. we should be in the middle 60s or so. in terms of average temperatures for the time of year. gaithersburg down to 70. frederick 75 and fredericksburg pardon me is still sitting at 80 degrees. little cooler by the water temperature and annapolis 70 degrees. stevensville across the bay is 68. and out there along i-81, temperatures from the upper 60s hagerstown to the lower 70s down towards winchester and martinsburg.

gorgeous evening. forecast calls for the temperatures to be dropping through into the middle 60s by later on and just a few clouds. again, in terms of any rain, it's well up to the north of us. this storm track this week. little dip out to the west, that brings the chilly weather there. and the unsettled weather too. there'll be snow at the higher elevations, as a matter of fact it's been snowing out in northern california. and as we come across the nation here, the ridge bumps up on our side of the country and that means warm unusually warm temperatures for us and this is going to stick around too. the trend show that is tomorrow lower 80s. little cooler on thursday but still nice. of course all this is bonus weather. 76 degrees on thursday. friday down to 73. and saturday, even though there's a chance for some showers on saturday, our temperatures are still going to be well up on the mild side with temperatures in the lower 70s. here's the satellite and radar together. notice the rain is staying to the north of us.

we've just had periods of passing clouds today. and you see some sprinkles of green around. those are just false echoes popping up with the composite radar there. no need to worry about rain this evening. low temperatures on the mild side this morning. 40s and lower 50s. tonight we're lower 60s and a few 50s out there. it depend on how much we have in the way of cloud cover just how low the temperatures out in the suburbs are going to get. of course if it clears up a little bit more temperatures will be just a little bit cooler. if not we're talking upper 50s lower 60s. another warm day tomorrow. gaithersburg how about 80? here in town how about 81. quantico 82. fredericksburg 82. they were 84 in fredericksburg earlier this afternoon. and i got to believe some of the communities around here down here -- down here tomorrow and tomorrow afternoon could be approaching the middle 80s. so not too chilly tomorrow morning. sun and clouds at noon and warm tomorrow afternoon. temperatures upper 07s and lower 80s.
